Growth hormone & performance
HGH 191AA (Somatropin)
Recombinant human growth hormone, identical to the natural 191-amino-acid hormone. Approved for growth-hormone deficiency and other conditions. Measured in IU.
The protocol is the label starting dose for adults with GH deficiency: 0.2 mg (0.6 IU) a day. Doctors raise it by 0.1–0.2 mg every 1–2 months based on IGF-1 blood tests, rarely above 1 mg (3 IU) a day. 1 mg = 3 IU.
How it works
It is identical to the body’s own growth hormone. It acts on the liver (making IGF-1), muscle, bone and fat, increasing fat breakdown and protein building.
What it is used for
Growth-hormone deficiency in children and adults, Turner syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, short bowel syndrome and HIV-related wasting.
What the evidence says
Well proven for deficiency. In healthy adults it increases lean mass, partly as water, with little gain in strength.
Side effects and cautions
Water retention, joint pain, carpal tunnel and insulin resistance. It may speed up the growth of existing tumors. Fake products are common.
Half-life
About 2–4 hours (label)
Makes sense for
- Adults with diagnosed growth-hormone deficiency, under a doctor
Does not make sense for
- Active cancer
- Diabetes without medical control
- People with normal GH levels looking for performance
Boost the effect
- Enough protein: growth hormone needs building material to work on
- Strength training: turns the effect into lean mass
- Limit sugar and refined carbs: growth hormone raises blood sugar
