Hormonal, fertility & sexual health

HCG

Human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone approved for fertility treatments. Measured in IU.

This is the label regimen for men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, which allows 500 to 1,000 IU per injection. uPrime shows the lower dose.

How it works

A hormone that acts like LH: it tells the testes to make testosterone and supports ovulation and early pregnancy.

What it is used for

Fertility treatment (triggering ovulation, male hypogonadism) and keeping the testes working during testosterone therapy.

What the evidence says

A well-established medicine. It does not work for weight loss.

Side effects and cautions

Ovarian hyperstimulation, breast tissue growth in men, mood changes and, rarely, blood clots.

Half-life

About 1–1.5 days (label)

Makes sense for

  • Men with low testosterone who want to keep fertility or testicular size
  • Fertility treatment

Does not make sense for

  • Hormone-sensitive cancers (prostate, breast)
  • Weight loss: it does not work

Boost the effect

  • Vitamin D and zinc in the normal range: low levels are linked to low testosterone
  • A healthy weight and enough sleep: both support testosterone
