Growth hormone & performance
GHRP-2
A growth-hormone-releasing peptide that acts on the ghrelin receptor. Approved in Japan as a diagnostic test (pralmorelin).
How it works
It activates the ghrelin receptor in the pituitary and brain, which releases growth hormone. It also raises cortisol, prolactin and appetite a little.
What it is used for
A diagnostic test for growth-hormone deficiency in Japan. Otherwise used to raise GH.
What the evidence says
Human studies confirm a strong GH release. There is no long-term outcome data.
Side effects and cautions
Hunger, higher cortisol and prolactin, water retention, numbness in the hands and higher blood sugar.
Half-life
About 20–30 minutes (vendor estimate)
Makes sense for
- Adults looking to raise GH who accept more hunger
Does not make sense for
- Active cancer or a history of cancer
- Diabetes or prediabetes
- High cortisol or prolactin problems
Boost the effect
- Inject on an empty stomach (2 hours after eating, no food for 30 minutes after): sugar and fat blunt the growth-hormone release
- Evening dose before bed and deep sleep: most growth hormone is released in deep sleep
- Enough protein: growth hormone needs building material to work on
