Weight loss & metabolic health

5-Amino-1MQ

A small molecule (not a peptide) that blocks the enzyme NNMT, studied for its effect on how fat cells use energy. Evidence comes from cell and animal studies.

How it works

It blocks NNMT, an enzyme that is especially active in fat tissue. With NNMT blocked, fat cells keep more NAD+ and burn more energy instead of storing it.

What it is used for

Researched for obesity and metabolic health, and discussed for age-related muscle loss.

What the evidence says

In mice on a high-fat diet it reduced fat mass and weight gain without changing how much they ate. There are no published human trials.

Side effects and cautions

There is no human safety data. NNMT also works in the liver and other tissues, and the effect of blocking it there over time is unknown.

Half-life

Not established in people

Makes sense for

  • Adults focused on fat loss who accept that only animal data exists

Does not make sense for

  • People with liver disease
  • Anyone who needs proven results

Boost the effect

  • Regular exercise: animal studies showed the best results together with activity
  • A calorie deficit: it supports a diet, it does not replace it
